Feeling the Pulse of English Literature!

ECCEL was founded at the University of Erlangen in 1996 with the aim to provide a scholarly forum for the discussion of new writing in English. ECCEL is supported by the Bavarian State Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs, Science and The Arts. ECCEL activities include seminars and literary events such as author readings and festivals - we intend to find a balance between the theoretical discussion of new fiction and the face-to-face discussion with new writers, to clamber out of the ivory tower and expose ourselves to the cultural ferment of literature as it is being written!

  • On our Authors page, we present a gallery of the writers we are currently concerned with - complete with book reviews, our own articles, bibliographies and references to other relevant sites on the web.
  • Browse the Articles page for a complete collection of articles by the ECCEL staff as well as selected articles about literature, theory and criticism on other web sites.
  • Interested in meeting writers face to face? Then jump onto the Events page and find out who is coming to Erlangen soon! Here, you may also browse our archive of earlier readings and festivals.
  • Our Links! page is waiting so send you on a journey to websites concerned with English literature and related topics. Take off to visit scholarly journals, review sites, web magazines and related organizations such as the British Council.
  • SiRCLE, the Society of Imaginative Readers of Contemporary Literature in English, is an Erlangen-based society which cooperates closely with ECCEL. Visit their page (in German) to find out more about them - and maybe join!
  • Finally, meet the ECCEL staff and find out about related seminars, projects and lectures.
